1 of 8: John Travolta, who played smart-aleck Vinnie Barbarino on the 1970s show 'Welcome Back, Kotter,' went on to become an Oscar-nominated movie star who has starred in films such as 'Grease,' 'Saturday Night Fever,' 'Look Who's Talking' and 'Pulp Fiction.' He also appeared in 2000 movie 'Battlefield Earth: A Saga of the Year 3000,' based on the novel of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard. In 2009, he starred opposite Robin Williams in the comedy 'Old Dogs.'

Travolta married actress Kelly Preston in 1991. In November 2010, they welcomed a son, Benjamin, following the tragic death of their son Jett. The two also have a daughter named Ella Bleu.

The couple's son, who was autistic, died in January 2009 at age 16 after suffering a seizure at the family's home in the Bahamas. After his death, the couple formed the Jett Travolta Foundation, a charity that supports and raises awareness for children with special needs. Preston told Health magazine in 2011 that Scientology is among the things that helps her cope during hard times.

Travolta, Preston and their daughter are all set to star with Lindsay Lohan in the 2012 crime drama movie "Gotti: In the Shadow of My Father.' The film is about the life of mob boss John Gotti and his son. (Walt Disney Pictures / ABC)
