Michelle Williams was nominated for a 2012 SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for her performance as Marilyn Monroe in the film 'My Week With Marilyn.' Her co-star, Kenneth Branagh, also received an acting nod for his role as Sir Laurence Olivier.
'I am honored to be nominated alongside the unparalleled Kenneth Branagh,' Williams said in a statement. 'Inhabiting a woman as renowned as Marilyn was a wonderful challenge, so to receive this sort of support from my peers is very moving indeed. Marilyn herself always approached her performances with such dedication and intelligence and a talent that defied explanation. I hope we were able to shed some light on those often overlooked aspects of her. Thank you so much to The Weinstein Company for all of their incredible support, and their continued devotion to independent films like ours.'
'My Week With Marilyn' is based on the week in 1965 that British writer Colin Clark worked as Monroe's assistant while she was filming 'The Prince and the Showgirl' with Olivier in the United Kingdom in the summer of 1956. British actor Eddie Redmayne plays Clark.
