8 of 8: The romantic silent film 'The Artist' was among the movies nominated for a 2012 SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. The movie received three nods

'What a tremendous honor from the Screen Actors Guild,' cast member James Cromwell said in a statement. 'I, and my fellow actors - Jean, Berenice, John, Penelope are, of course, speechless but I am sure Uggie's tail is wagging.'

Uggie is a Jack Russell terrier who belongs to main character George Valentin, an actor. The dog also starred in the 2011 film 'Water For Elephants.'

'The Artist' is a silent, black and white film that depicts the lives of a declining actor named George Valentin, played by Jean Dujardin, and a rising actress named Peppy Miller, portrayed by Berenice Bejo, in Hollywood in the late 1920s. Around that time, silent films began to be phased out and were soon replaced by 'talkies,' or movies with dialogue.

Cromwell, who did not receive an individual SAG Award nomination, plays Valentin's driver, Clifton, while Penelope Ann Miller portrays the silent film actor's wife, Doris. The movie also stars John Goodman as producer Al Zimmer.
