Kenneth Branagh was nominated for a 2012 SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role for his performance as Marilyn Monroe's co-star Sir Laurence Olivier in the film 'My Week With Marilyn.' Michelle Williams, who plays the Hollywood sex icon, also received an acting nod.
'I am so grateful to the Screen Actors Guild for recognising my work, and that of the extraordinary cast, and especially the remarkable performance of Michelle Williams,' Branagh said in a statement. 'Laurence Olivier set a standard for artists. To play him was a great honour, and for the performance to be acknowledged by my fellow actors is especially meaningful to me. I feel very lucky and very proud to be an actor.'
'My Week With Marilyn' is based on the week in 1965 that British writer Colin Clark worked as Monroe's assistant while she was filming 'The Prince and the Showgirl' with Olivier in the United Kingdom in the summer of 1956. British actor Eddie Redmayne plays Clark.
