9 of 11: Ang Lee earned a 2013 Oscar nomination for directing 'Life of Pi,' which scored a total of 11 nods -- the second-highest of all films, after 'Lincoln.' Both are nominated for Best Picture.

'I am deeply honored and frankly a little overwhelmed by all of the nominations that 'Life of Pi' has received this morning,' the director said on January 10, after the nominees were announced. 'So many talented people gave everything they had to this film, both in front of and behind the camera, and to see all of them receive this kind of recognition is something I am incredibly grateful for.'

This marks the third nomination in this category for the director, who won the Oscar for Best Director in 2006 for 'Brokeback Mountain.' He was also nominated for Best Director and Best Picture for the 2000 movie 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.'
