7 of 11: 'Beasts of the Southern Wild' earned four 2013 Oscar nominations, including a nod for Best Picture. The film's producers, Dan Janvey, Josh Penn, Michael Gottwald of Court 13 Pictures, released a statement reacting to the nominations.

''BOTSW' was made with a grassroots and community based approach to filmmaking. This recognition by the academy is a testament to the hundreds of people who worked tirelessly on this movie, from the most incredibly tenacious crew, to our inspiring non-professional performers, to the communities of Terrebone Parish and Southern Louisiana where we had our home on the bayou,' the statement said. 'This nomination says that what they did and the unique way that they collaborated under Benh has a place in the world of modern American film. It is especially gratifying to share the moment with our leading lady Quvenzhane Wallis, our writer Lucy Alibar, and of course our fearless director Benh Zeitlin. Benh put all of himself into this movie every day for years that this moment can be shared with the community who made the film with him makes us supremely happy. What a crazy ride.'

The film was also received nominations for Best Achievement in Directing for Benh Zeitlin and Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role for Quvenzhane Wallis.
