7 of 10: Kurt Cobain, who had battled heroin and alcohol addictions for years, was found dead at age 27 in his Seattle home in April 1994. Police said they believed the Nirvana singer killed himself by shooting himself in the head once with a shotgun. An electrician discovered a note next to his body. Conspiracy theories regarding Cobain's death have since surfaced.

Cobain told Rolling Stone in January 1994 that he did not know how to deal with his band's massive success following the release of the 'Nevermind' album three years earlier.

'If there was a Rock Star 101 course, I would have liked to take it,' he told the magazine, while touring. 'It might have helped me.'

'I still see stuff, descriptions of rock stars in some magazine - 'Sting, the environmental guy,' and 'Kurt Cobain, the whiny, complaining, neurotic, bitchy guy who hates everything, hates rock stardom, hates his life,' the singer said. 'And I've never been happier in my life. Especially within the last week, because the shows have been going so well - except for tonight. I'm a much happier guy than a lot of people think I am.'
