Kim Basinger adjusts her glasses as she reads a prepared statement at the Rio Grande Zoo in Albuquerque, N.M. on Aug. 26, 1997. Basinger called for the U.S. Department of Agriculture to revoke the license of Texas-based King Royal Circus after the death of a traveling circus elephant. Albuquerque police discovered the dead elephant along with two live ones and eight llamas in a poorly ventilated van on Aug 6, 1997. The animals belong to King Royal Circus.
