Idris Elba, a 41-year-old British actor, was nominated for a 2014 Golden Globe Award for his roles as South African leader Nelson Mandela in the 2013 movie 'Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom' and as homicide detective John Luther on the BBC crime series 'Luther.'
He said in response: 'I'm truly humbled and honored to be acknowledged for two projects that, though very different from one another, are both extremely personal and special to me. Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press for your support, and I would also like to give a special thank you to Mr. Mandela, who will be forever missed.'

This marks the third and fourth Golden Globe nominations for Elba, who won an award in 2012 for his role in 'Luther' and was nominated for one in 2011 as well. He also earned two Emmy nods for the part as well as one for a guest role on the show 'The Big C.'
