In 'The Master,' Phoenix plays a Naval veteran named Freddie Quell who arrives home from war and becomes inspired by Hoffman's character, Lancaster Dodd, the leader of a mysterious philosophical movement. Adams plays Dodd's daughter, Elizabeth.
'Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press for this nomination,' Adams said in a statement. I'm so appreciative to have been part of Paul Thomas Anderson's extraordinary film and to have had the opportunity to star alongside such respected actors as Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix who were nothing short of brilliant in their performances.'
This is the actress' fourth Golden Globe nomination. Her third came in 2011, when she earned a nod for her role in 'The Fighter.' She was also nominated for an Oscar for that part, which marked her third Oscar nod.
