Tina Fey and Amy Poehler's opening monologue
The two comedy stars kicked off the night with zingers aimed at previous host Ricky Gervais, James Cameron and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the organization behind the Golden Globes. The two also pretended that Oscar-nominee and Golden Globe winner Daniel Day-Lewis played E.T. once.
They also referenced Kathryn Bigelow's nomination for Best Director - Motion Picture for 'Zero Dark Thirty,' a movie about the capture of Osama bin Laden. The film has come under fire by critics over its scenes of torture.
'I haven't really been following the controversy over 'Zero Dark Thirty' but when it comes to torture, I trust the lady who spent three years married to James Cameron,' Poehler said, drawing thundering laughter and 'oooohs' from the audience.
