Judi Dench, an Oscar winner, was nominated for a 2013 Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy for her role in the movie 'The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.'
The film was also nominated for Best Motion Picture - Comedy Or Musical.
'This is lovely news ... Having had such a glorious time in India,' Dench said in a statement. 'I'm so happy for [director] John Madden and [producer] Graham Broadbent and delighted to be included in such a wonderful group of fellow actors.'
In the movie, Dench play a widowed housewife named Evelyn who joins several fellow retirees, including a woman played by Maggie Smith, on a trip to India. There, they take up residence in a hotel and experience mass culture shock. Dev Patel plays the hotel manager.
This is the actress' 10th Golden Globe nomination. Dench earned her first in 1998, for her performance in the movie 'Miss Brown,' and won. She would go on to win another Golden Globe in 2000 for her role in the TV movie 'The Last of the Blonde Bombshells.' Dench won an Oscar for her role in the 1998 film 'Shakespeare in Love' and has been nominated for an Academy Award a total of six times.
Broadbent added: 'Marigold seems to be turning in to the 'little film that could.' We've had a wonderful ride - it's been hugely enjoyed by audiences around the world, and that's really enough for any filmmaker. We couldn't be happier that the HFPA and SAG are remembering our film, all our cast, and particularly our two 'international treasures' Dames, Judi and Maggie.'
