'In The Land of Blood and Honey,' an R-rated Bosnian film that is the first movie directed by actress Angelina Jolie, is nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film. She also wrote its screenplay.
'I am grateful that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is honoring our film,' Jolie said in a statement. 'This was a true collaboration and I am forever indebted to our cast and crew, who experienced their own personal tragedies in the Bosnian War and gave me an authentic perspective into the conflict. This nomination is a tribute to the collective talent and passion of this extraordinary cast.'
The movie depicts a romance between a Serbian man and a Bosnian woman who fall in love at the time of the Bosnian war in the 1990s and stars local actors Zana Marjanovic and Goran Kostic. The subject matter is of particular interest to Jolie, who is a UN Goodwill Ambassador who travels around the world doing humanitarian work.
