Amber Portwood of the MTV reality show 'Teen Mom' turned herself in to jail on May 24, 2012, as seen in this mug shot provided by the Madison County Sheriff's Department, on charges of felony domestic battery and child neglect.
In June 2011, she was put on probation and given a suspended two-year jail sentence for assaulting her ex-fiance Gary Shirley, the father of her 3-year-old daughter Leah. She was accused of assaulting him in front of their child in 2009 and was seen hitting him on a September 2010 episode of Teen Mom.'
In December 2011, she was arrested again, this time on charges of possession of a controlled substance and a probation violation. Portwood was found in possession of prescription drugs. She pled guilty and was taken into custody at an Indiana jail. In January 2012, her lawyer struck a plea deal that would call for her to be sent to rehab rather than be sentenced to prison for five years. In February, the deal was accepted.
She was ordered to complete a drug rehab program, which would last a maximum of three years, while a 5-year jail sentence would be postponed and she would likely not have to complete any of it once she fulfills the requirements for her treatment.
On May 24, Portwood returned to jail after choosing to serve out her five-year jail sentence instead of going through the court-ordered drug program.
