George Lindsey, a television actor known for his role as Goober on 'The Andy Griffith Show' and 'Hee Haw,' died on May 6 at age 83, according to the Associated Press.
The actor died early Sunday after a brief undisclosed illness. The actor appeared as the beanie-wearing, service station attendant Goober Pyle on several series. First on 'The Andy Griffith Show' from 1964 to 1968, then on the show's sequel series 'Mayberry RFD' from 1968 to 1971.
He also played Goober on episodes of 'Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C.' and 'The New Andy Griffith Show,' before joining the cast of 'Hee Haw' as Goober in 1971 until it went out of production in 1993.
