Mark Abrahamian, guitarist of the band Starship who performed the 1985 hit 'We Built This City,' has died at age 46.
Abrahamian, who joined Starship in 2000, suffered from an apparent heart attack following a show in Norfolk, Nebraska, according to the Associated Press. The band was opening for Survivor and Boston. Abrahamian was talking to his fiance on the phone when he collapsed, shortly after telling her he had been having chest pains, according to Rolling Stone. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
'We are shocked and saddened at the sudden loss of our guitar player Mark Abrahamian,' the band wrote on Starship's official Twitter account. 'We will miss you, brother. Rest in peace, Mark.'
The band has gone through several changes over the years, forming originally in the 1960's as Jefferson Airplane. The band later re-launched in as Jefferson Starship featuring Mickey Thomas and Paul Kantner, who performed 1980's hits like 'We Built This City,' 'Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now' and 'Sara.'
