Ernest Borgnine, the Academy Award-winning star of the 1955 film 'Marty' has died at age 95. The actor died on July 8 after suffering renal failure at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center with his family at his side.
Borgnine won Best Actor in a Leading Role at the Academy Awards in 1956 for playing a kind-hearted Italian-American butcher in the film 'Marty.' The actor is also known for playing Quinton McHale in the television series 'McHale's Navy' which ran from 1962 to 1966.
He first gained fame in villain role including a role as Fatso Judson opposite Frank Sinatra in 'From Here to Eternity.'
Younger audiences might know Borgnine for voicing the Mermaid Man on the animated series 'SpongeBob SquarePants.'
