109 of 186: British film director Ken Russell, whose movies sometimes sparked controversy, has died at the age of 84. Russell's son, Alex Verney-Elliott, said his father died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011, at a hospital after suffering from a series of strokes.

He is survived by wife Elise Tribble and his children.
