Mikey Welsh, the former bass player for the band Weezer, has been found dead in a Chicago hotel room, police say.
Authorities said Welsh was supposed to check out of the Raffaello Hotel at 1 p.m. Saturday, but he didn't. When hotel staff went to his room, he was found unconscious and not breathing.
Officials said there's nothing to indicate foul play.
Weezer posted a message on its website, saying Welsh's time with the band was 'vital, essential, wild, and amazing.'
'A unique talent, a deeply loving friend and father, and a great artist is gone, but we will never forget him,' the band said.
Welsh, 40, of Burlington, Vt., performed with Weezer from 1998 to 2001, leaving after suffering a nervous breakdown, according to the band's website. He eventually established himself in a second career as a painter.
The former bass player posted an eerie online message less than two weeks before his death.
'Dreamt i died in chicago next weekend (heart attack in my sleep),' Welsh said on his Twitter page on September 26. 'Need to write my will today.'
'We are deeply saddened to announce that Mikey Welsh passed away unexpectedly today,' a message posted on Welsh's Facebook page said on Saturday. 'He will forever be remembered as an amazing father, artist, and friend. May he rest in peace.'
