Diane Cilento, an Oscar-nominated actress and Sean Connery's former wife died at age 78 on Thursday, October 6, 2011. No cause of death was given.
Cilento starred opposite Charlton Heston in the 1965 film 'The Agony and the Ecstasy' and appeared with Paul Newman in the 1967 western, 'Hombre.' The actress was nominated for a Tony Award in 1956 for her portrayal of Helen of Troy in the play 'Tiger at the Gates.' Cilento was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award in 1963 for her role in 'Tom Jones.'
Cilento was married Andres Volpe for seven years before meeting the 'Bond' actor. She was married to Connery for 11-years, after meeting in 1962. Their son Jason, who is also an actor, was born in 1963.
Cilento married playwright Anthony Shaffer in 1985 and the couple settled in the actress' birthplace of Queensland, Australia, where she ran a successful open-air theater in the rain forest. Shaffer died in 2001.
