Lea Michele's real last name is 'Sarfati.' (Pronounced 'Sar-FAW-tee') The 'Glee' and 'New Year's Eve' actress talked about her name change on 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno' on Dec. 7, 2011.
'I don't use it a lot because I got 'Lea So-Fatty,' 'Lea So-Farty' at school,' she said. 'So when I was little and I went on my first audition, they were like, 'And may we have your name?'I was like, 'Lea Michele.' And then I've been 'Lea Michele' ever since.
The actress, whose mother is of Italian decent and whose father is Jewish, said 'Sarfati' is 'Sephardic, which is Spanish Jew.'
