'American Idol' alumni: Where are they now?

5 of 32: Danny Gokey, a country music singer, came in third on 'American Idol' in season 8 in 2009. Adam Lambert placed second and the season was won by Kris Allen.

Gokey went on to record his debut album, 'My Best Days,' in 2010. It reached the No. 4 spot on the U.S. chart. The following year, he toured with Taylor Swift and released the single 'Second Hand Heart.' He also signed a licensing deal with Match Eyewear. The company which plans to distribute a prescription eyewear collection, which it says highlights the singer's 'personal flair,' in March 2012.

Gokey had auditioned for 'American Idol' weeks before his wife Sophia died after undergoing heart surgery. He then launched a charity called Sophia's Heart Foundation. Three years later, on Dec, 25, 2011, he announced he was engaged to girlfriend Leyicet Peralta. She is a model who appeared on the reality show 'Model Latina.'

Gokey, a Wisconsin native, and Peralta, who is from Florida, said plan to wed in late January of 2012, according to a message posted on the website of Sophia's Heart Foundation. The couple did indeed tie the knot on on Jan. 29, 2012.

The charity helps raise funds for impoverished children and adults.

'Danny's passion and focus for the last three years has been his country music career and launching Sophia's Heart Foundation,' the message on the group's website said. 'He is thrilled to have found Leyicet who also shares his passion and desire to help children and families in need. Accordingly, Danny and Leyicet have requested to their wedding guests that all gifts be in the form of a donation to Sophia's Heart.'
