'American Idol: Season 1' winner, Kelly Clarkson, is the successful contestants that sang her way to the top and survived the wrath of Simon Cowell in 2002.
Clarkson saw tremendous success of her first single, 'A Moment Like This,' released shortly after her win on Sept. 4, 2002. Since her first single, she has released five albums, selling almost 10.5 billion copies in the United States. Clarkson is a double platinum selling artist, two-time Grammy winner for her album 'Breakaway,' and even took a stab at acting. She and season 1 runner-up Justin Guarini starred in the 2003 film 'From Justin to Kelly,' which was a flop. Clarkson later guest starred on the shows 'American Dreams' and 'Reba.'
Her latest album, 'Stronger,' was released in the United States on Oct. 24, 2011. She has often appeared in singing contest shows as a coach for contestants and on March 8, 2012, ABC announced she would serve as a mentor on a new series, 'Duets,' which premieres in the summer.
