Simon Cowell predicted early on that season 4 contestant Carrie Underwood would win 'American Idol,' and right he was when the Checotah, Oklahoma native was crowned the winner of the singing competition in 2005.
After earning an immense amount of praise from the judges and viewers of the show, Underwood went onto find huge success as a country singing superstar, releasing four studio albums including 'Some Hearts' in 2005, 'Carnival Ride' in 2007, 'Play On' in 2009 and 'Blown Away' in 2012, all of which have been certified platinum in the United States and have debuted at number one on the country charts. Underwood has also received numerous awards since her debut, including three Country Music Association (CMA) awards, five Grammy awards including Best New Artist and is a two-time recipient of the Academy of Country Music's Entertainer of the Year award.
In addition to her success as a country singer, Underwood made her movie debut in the film 'Soul Surfer' in 2011. Underwood married hockey player Mike Fisher in 2010, telling Oprah during an interview in 2012 that when the two decide to have children, 'He's going to be the best dad ever, and that makes the whole parent situation seem much better.' In 2013, Underwood replaced Faith Hill as the performer of the 'Sunday Night Football' opening theme on NBC.
