'127 Hours,' which depicts the real-life story of hiker Aron Ralston, who cut off his own arm to survive, earned six Oscar nods for the 2011 Academy Awards, including Actor in a Leading Role and Best Picture.

This is Franco's first Oscar nomination. He is known for his role in films such as the 'Spider-Man' movies and 'Pineapple Express' and the comedy series 'Freaks and Geeks.' He also plays a serial killer named Franco on the soap opera 'General Hospital.'
