'Boy Meets World' alum Rider Strong is engaged to actress and longtime girlfriend Alexandra Barreto.
'I took her for a walk under the redwoods on the property where I grew up in Northern California,' he told OTRC.com in a statement. 'It was pouring rain, but it didn't look like it was going to stop anytime soon, so I just decided to go for it.'
Strong also said he designed her engagement ring and that his father had done the same for his mother. (Check out exclusive photos of the ring and the process of making it, as well as more pictures of Strong and Barreto.)
'I spent weeks making the ring in secret,' the actor said. 'I found an old-school jeweler who works out of his basement in Echo Park and asked him to teach me how to do a lost wax casting (it took a while to convince him I didn't want to become an apprentice jeweler -- I only wanted to make this one ring).'
In 'Boy Meets World,' Cory Mathews' best friend, Shawn Hunter, played by Rider Strong, was the character that tackled the toughest problems on the show, mostly coming from his tough family life. But with the help from his best friend, he was able to avoid any serious trouble.
While the show is set to debut a reboot on the Disney channel and star original cast members Danielle Fishel and Ben Savage, there has been no word on whether Strong will play any role in the highly-anticipated series.
In 2004, Strong graduated Magna Cum Laude from Columbia University with a degree in English. He completed his Master of Fine Arts in 2009 at Bennington College.
After 'Boy Meets World' ended in 2000, Strong appeared on the big screen in several indie horror films including 'Cabin Fever' in 2002 and its 2009 sequel 'Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever.' He also returned to the small screen with a recurring role as Chick in the series 'Pepper Dennis' in 2006.
Strong has also appeared on television shows such as 'Bones' and 'Castle.' He has shown some interest in writing and directing after making his short film 'Irish Twins,' along with his brother Shiloh in 2008. As of July 2011, he has completed two more short films.
