Britney Spears' comeback
The princess of pop may have had her best year ever.
Spears, 31, kicked off the year in stellar fashion, having confirmed her engagement to her former manager Jason Trawick in December 2011.
The singer hinted at the proposal on Dec. 11, 2011 on her official Twitter page, writing, "OMG. Last night Jason surprised me with the one gift I've been waiting for. Can't wait to show you! SO SO SO excited!!!! Xxo."
In May, it was confirmed that Spears and Demi Lovato had been added as the newest judges, or mentors, on Simon Cowell's FOX series "The X Factor," following weeks of speculation.
The singing contest series returned for season 2 in September, and concluded in December. The two women joined Cowell and returning cast member L.A. Reid on the judging panel, and replaced Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger, who left the show in January.
Spears reportedly earned $15 million to join "The X Factor," according to The Hollywood Reporter. The network declined to comment about its cast members' salaries.
In October, the singer debuted her new Elizabeth Arden fragrance, Fantasy Twist.
The fragrance is actually a combination of two of Spears' most popular fragrances - Fantasy and Midnight Fantasy. The spherical bottle will break in half, with a pink side housing Fantasy and dark blue side holding Midnight Fantasy.
Spears has been endorsing fragrances for Elizabeth Arden since 2004, when they released Curious, which broke the company's first-week gross for a perfume. By 2011, she had released eight more fragrances, which became the best-selling celebrity fragrance line on the market.
In November, Spears was among the pack in Forbes' list of the 25 Highest-Paid Musicians of 2012 (Photos).
Spears earned $58 million from May 2011 to May 2012, nabbing the seventh place spot on the esteemed list. The performer returned to the ranks of music's elite earners thanks to her fragrance line with Elizabeth Arden, her latest album Femme Fatale and her current judging gig on the hit singing competition "The X Factor." Taylor Swift followed close behind the pop diva.
