The year 2011 was a tough one for Lindsay Lohan, who has been in and out of jail cells and court rooms since she was convicted of drunk driving and cocaine possession in 2007 (see photos of her mug shots and court appearances).
In May, she served 35 days under house arrest, shortened from 120 due to overcrowding, for violating her probation by being charged with theft in a different case, in which she was accused of stealing a $2,500 necklace from a jewelry store.
The actress was also sentenced to 480 hours of community service. In June, she began completing several hours at a women's shelter. On October 19, a judge revoked Lohan's probation, ruling that she had violated it by skipping community service appointments at the shelter, which got her kicked out of the program.
A day later, Lohan began serving her hours at a morgue, although she was turned away that day for being late.
On November 2, a judge sentenced Lohan to 30 days in jail for her probation violation. The actress spent less than five hours behind bars due to overcrowding.
As she awaited her sentence, Lohan found time to pose nude for Playboy magazine for the first time. The actress, whose acting career has stalled amid her legal turmoil, later appeared in a photo spread that shows her channeling Hollywood sex icon Marilyn Monroe.
The former child star told Playboy in an interview that over the past five years, she learned 'that ultimately we are each responsible for ourselves and for our actions.'
'Looking back, I probably would have listened to and taken more advice from the people whom I admire and would have followed through with it more,' she added. 'My stubbornness at 18 and 19 years old got in the way.'
On December 14, the judge gave Lohan a glowing probation report.
