Zooey Deschanel may be heading to the small screen in a more permanent role soon.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the actress, best known for roles in "Almost Famous," "Elf," and "500 Days of Summer," has signed on to star in a comedy pilot for Fox.

The pilot was written by "No Strings Attached" writer Liz Meriwether and is said to explore "the sexual politics of men and women," according to the magazine.

Deschanel has had a role on the television show "Weeds" and appeared on an episode of the Fox drama "Bones" alongside her sister Emily Deschanel, where she played a distant cousin of Emily Deschanel's character.
