Zach Galifianakis hopes to lure kids with 'Puss in Boots' (Video)

10/29/2011 by Olivia Allin

Zach Galifianakis, who is famous for his off-center brand of humor, doesn't have any kids, but jokes that he might attain some with his new film "Puss in Boots."

"I don't have any kids, but I'm hoping with this movie that I'll be able to lure some in," Galifianakis joked to OnTheRedCarpet.com. "Cause I just got my van tinted... it's got ice cream truck music blaring out of it... It's a kids movie, you're not supposed to make child abduction jokes."

"Puss in Boots," which opened in theaters on October 28, is a prequel to the "Shrek" movies, which gives the back-story to the sword-fighting cat known as Puss in Boots (voiced by Antonio Banderas), before he's met Shrek and his friends. The film also features Kitty Softpaws (Salma Hayek), Humpty Dumpty (Zach Galifianakis) and Jack (Billy Bob Thornton) and Jill (Amy Sedaris).

"I think sometimes you can overplay it with jokes and I think this movie has a little bit more in-depthness than that. It's not like, okay let's roll out the fat egg and let him do his one-liner thing, which is tempting," Galifianakis said before joking, "They wanted me to wear an egg outfit... like 'Mr. Katzenberg [CEO of Dreamworks] called and you have to wear it, so don't ask anymore [expletive] questions,'" Galifianakis joked. "'And he also wants you to hand out fliers at Universal City Walk in the egg outfit for the movie. Do you have a problem with that?' 'No, I don't, but how am I going to drive?' 'Don't worry about it, we've got a flatbed truck.'"

Though Galifianakis is famous for his improvisational skills, the actor said that he mostly stuck to the script in his new animated movie.

"It was scripted and scripted well, there was a tinge of it [improvisation] here and there, but mostly it was from the page, most of it. Because there are real plot points, like you said, it's not just jokes, there are real plot points that Humpty Dumpty has in there... I say these sentences and it's just hard to digest that I'm saying them."

Galifianakis appeared on the spoof news show "Dog Bites Man" before he caught his big break in the hit comedy film "The Hangover" and its sequel "The Hangover Part II." He also co-starred with Robert Downey Jr. in "Due Date."

In late May, "Hangover" co-screenwriter Craig Mazin told OnTheRedCarpet.com that a third film in the hit comedy franchise was in the works and would be "the final one."
