'Wipeout's John Henson on casting calls, son
'Wipeout' host John Henson is one of more than a hundred reality show hosts and contestants appearing that the Reality Rocks Expo at the Los Angeles Convention Center on April 9th and April 10th.
Henson describes Reality Rocks as "sorta like Comic Con for reality shows. It's an opportunity for the fans to kinda come down. It's for the fans, by the fans."
"Wipeout" will be holding an open casting call at the expo. On The Red Carpet host Rachel Smith asked Henson for some tips for anyone auditioning to be on the show. "If you are absolutely insane, that works in your favor. If you are buoyant, that works. If you don't bruise easily, that works in your favor," he joked, but on a more serious level he added, "Basically, we want somebody who's going to come out with a big personality."
Rachel went on to ask him what obstacle on the 'Wipeout' course is his favorite. "It's like asking Charlie Sheen his favorite porn star," he joked, finally answering that he does enjoy watching contestants wipeout on the bob sled launch.
Henson has never tried running the 'Wipeout' course. "The longer I host the show, the less I'm inclined to run the course. I've watched far too many wipeouts to ever want to be part of that." He went on to say, "Its tragedy when it happens to you. It's comedy when it happens to them."
On March 7th, Henson's wife Jill Benjamin gave birth to their first child, Jackson Wright Henson. When Henson was asked about fatherhood he replied, "He's awesome," but added, "You think 'Wipeout' is brutal, try changing a diaper at my house."
