Will Ferrell will appear on the NBC series "The Office" on April 14 to begin his four-episode arc, which sees him reuniting with his "Anchorman" co-star and friend Steve Carell.

Carell, who has been nominated for an Emmy five times for his role, had said last year that the seventh season of the show would be his last and that his character would make an exit before the show's season finale on May 19. He will appear on three more episodes, TV Guide said.

It was announced in January that Ferrell will appear on four episodes this year, playing an "inappropriate" branch manager from the company's home office.

Carell had said he is leaving the show to spend more time with his family. In recent years, he starred in major films such as "Little Miss Sunshine" and "The 40-Year-Old Virgin."

Carell has said "The Office" will be able to continue to be successful without him and hopes his character ends up happy.

Ferrell rose to fame as a cast member on "Saturday Night Live" in the mid-1990s and later starred with Carell in the 2004 comedy film "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy." He later went on to star in movies such as "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby ," "Semi-Pro" and "Step Brothers" and voiced the main villain in the 2010 animated film "Megamind."

"The Office" actor Rainn Wilson told Entertainment Weekly in January that Ferrell is not expected to replace Carell on the series permanently.

Ricky Gervais, who co-created the series and its original British version, which featured him as the boss character, and "Arrested Development" star Will Arnett are set to also appear on the finale of "The Office." Gervais said in February that Arnett should be made a regular character.
