Wes Scantlin, the lead singer of Puddle of Mudd, was removed from a cross-country flight on Tuesday, September 4, and charged with public intoxication.

Police in Austin confirmed to OnTheRedCarpet.com that a JetBlue pilot of a plane traveling from Boston to Los Angeles requested an emergency landing in Austin to remove Scantlin, 40, who had become unruly and was creating a disturbance.

According to The Associated Press, the public intoxication charge is a Class C misdemeanor, similar to a parking citation.

The singer reportedly got into an argument with a flight attendant over his drinking, according to E! News. Police later added an additional charge of interference with a flight crew.

The entertainment news site notes that this is not the singer's first brush with the law and he pled guilty to cocaine possession in July.

Puddle of Mudd is known for hits like "Blurry," "Control" and "She Hates Me." The group won four Billboard Music Awards in 2002 for Modern Rock Artist of the Year, Rock Artist of the Year, Modern Rock Track of the Year and Rock Track of the Year.
