Wes Bentley to play Seneca Crane in 'Hunger Games'?
Wes Bentley has signed on to play the role of Seneca Crane, the head game maker of the 74th Hunger Games, The Hollywood Reporter said. The actor and the movie studio, Lionsgate, have not commented.
The film is based on a novel by Suzanne Collins and is set for release on March 23, 2012. The "Hunger Games" are part of an annual televised event put on by the government, in which a boy and a girl from each district fight to the death. Lawrence plays heroine Katniss Everdeen.
In March, "30 Rock"'s Elizabeth Banks was said to be in talks for the role of Effie Trinket, a "pink-haired showbiz type" who becomes Everdeen's handler.
Others set to star in the movie include Jack Quaid, the son of actors Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan, Leven Rambin, Dayo Okeniyi and Amandla Stenberg, the trade publication said.
Bentley is best known for his role as Ricky Fitts, the amateur film-maker in "American Beauty." He has also appeared in films like "The Four Feathers," "Jonah Hex," "Ghost Rider" and "P2."
After the success of "American Beauty," Bentley dealt with drug addiction and alcoholism up until 2009. The documentary "My Big Break" follows the actors rise to fame, struggle with drug addiction and his eventual recovery.
