'Weeds' renewed for season 8 with 13 episodes
The comedy series "Weeds" has been picked up for an eighth season, Showtime announced on Thursday, November 8.
The series has been picked up for an additional 13 episodes and is set to begin production in 2012.
Mary Louise Parker plays a former suburban mom named Nancy Botwin who deals marijuana.
Last season the show jumped three years ahead of its timeline with Nancy finishing up her stint and jail while her sons Silas, played by Hunter Parrish, and Shane, played by Alexander Gould, hid out in Copenhagen with her brother-in-law Andy, played by Justin Kirk.
The family was reunited in New York where Nancy worked on her new career at a hedge fund and restarted her marijuana business.
The show's season finale, which aired in September, ended on a cliff-hanger where someone in the family was shot by a lone gunman during a family dinner.
