Virginia Madsen to join NBC's 'The Event', report says

Virginia Madsen has reportedly signed on for a recurring role on the new NBC drama "The Event".

The 49-year-old actress, who starred in the 2004 movie "Sideways", will play Catherine Lewis, a former attorney who assumes her dead senator husband's post to carry out his political legacy, Deadline.com reported.

Spokespeople for Madsen and NBC had no immediate comment. "The Event" stars Jason Ritter and Sarah Roemer and tells of a man who uncovers a government conspiracy involving extraterrestrials while searching for his missing girlfriend.

The show debuted in September and was in October picked up for a full Fall 2010-11 season. "The Event" is set to return on Feb. 28, 2011 with 12 new episodes.

Madsen has also starred in the show "Monk" and "Scoundrels" and recently filmed the thriller "Red Riding Hood" with Amanda Seyfried.
