Vera Wang separates from husband of 23 years Arthur Becker
Famed wedding designer Vera Wang has separated from her husband Arthur Becker after 23 years of marriage.
"Vera Wang and Arthur Becker have mutually and amicably agreed to separate. They remain devoted parents to their two daughters," Mario Grauso, president of the designer's eponymous label told Women's Wear Daily in a statement.
The pair wed at New York City's The Pierre hotel on June 22, 1989 and are parents to Cecilia and Josephine, who were born in 1990 and 1993, respectively.
Before her career in fashion, Wang was a figure skater and competed in the 1968 U.S. Figure Skating Championships. She attended Sarah Lawrence College and pursued fashion after she failed to make the Olympic team.
In 1970, Wang began working at Vogue magazine, where she eventually became the senior fashion editor . She reportedly left when she was passed over for the editor-in-chief position currently held by Anna Wintour.
In 1987, She became design director for Ralph Lauren women's accessories and at-home wear while Becker was a stockbroker at Bear Stearns & Co.
The following year, Wang launched her line and opened a bridal salon in The Carlyle hotel, while Becker helped her develop the business side. Vera Wang is now a hugely successful brand which has expanded into ready-to-wear, makeup, fragrance, footwear, luggage, home goods as well as clothing and bridal wear at an affordable price point.
While Becker has his own business pursuits, he is also involved in Vera Wang and a source told People magazine that the couple will not let the separation impact the company as they "have worked too hard to build it up."
Wang's wedding gowns have recently been worn by stars like Kim Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, Chelsea Clinton and Brooklyn Decker.
