Uggie's trainer talks about working on 'The Artist' and the dog's retirement
Uggie joined his fellow cast members from "The Artist" when they received a new honor, the first ever "Made In Hollywood" award on Tuesday, January 31.
The award honors movie making in Hollywood, which celebrated its 125th anniversary on Wednesday.
Omar von Muller, Uggie's trainer talked to OnTheRedCarpet.com about the dog's upcoming retirement plans.
"It has meant a lot, it has opened a lot of doors," von Mueller told George Pennacchio of KABC Television, OnTheRedCarpet.com's parent company about Uggie's role in the film. "Unfortunately he is getting ready to retire. He's 10 years old so I don't think we're going to put him through long hours anymore."
"The Artist" is up for 10 Oscars and its nominations include Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role for Jean Dujardin and Best Motion Picture of the Year. Check out the full list of 2012 Oscar nominations here.
"He's an old man. I mean, in human years he's about 70," von Mueller said about Uggie. "So little things here and there but definitely long movies are out of the question."
His brother, a Jack Russell Terrier named Dash, is set to replace him.
Uggie, who also appeared alongside Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson in "Water for Elephants," may also appear in a skit with Billy Crystal during the Oscars later this month.
The Oscars will air live on Sunday, February 26, 2012 at 7 p.m. ET on ABC, OnTheRedCarpet.com's parent company. Get ready for OSCAR SUNDAY starting now on Oscar.com.
