Tyra Banks is attending Harvard Business School, has new beauty website

Tyra Banks has been attending Harvard Business School since last year in a bid to promote her brand.

Banks, 37, is known for her work as a supermodel, talk show host and co-creator of the reality show "America's Next Top Model." Banks also helms her own production company Bankable Productions.

"In order for my company to grow and be the best, and to reach these women, and to serve them, I needed the best," she told CBS News. "So I went to the best."

On Tuesday, March 15, Banks plans to launch her new fashion and beauty website typeF.com.

The site is powered by Demand Media, the company behind user-generated content portal eHow.com.

In February, Demand Media reported a net profit in its first outing as a public company. The web giant has been both praised and criticized for its ability to push inexpensive content to the top of online search results.

Banks has no prior college degree and was once accepted by UCLA and the University of Southern California, but opted to pursue a career in modeling.

She is currently enrolled in Harvard Business School's Executive Education Owner/President Management Program (OPM), which usually attracts "presidents and CEOs of companies with sales from anywhere between five million to several billion dollars," the Harvard Crimson newspaper quoted program director Jacqueline Baugher as saying.

"I get mixed reactions," Banks told CBS News. "There are little facial expressions. The chin goes back, like, 'Really?' I'm, like, 'Yeah, I'm going.' How do I react to that? I kind of take a pause and kind of analyze what this is. And a lot of it is just shock."

Other famous people who have attended Harvard University include actress Natalie Portman and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
