Tyler Perry gets 19 NAACP Image Award nominations
Tyler Perry must be happy this Wednesday. The actor/director earned 19 NAACP Image Award nominations for his work in "For Colored Girls" and "Why Did I Get Married Too?" and the television show "Tyler Perry's House of Payne," according to The Los Angeles Times.
Janet Jackson nabbed a best actress nod for "Why Did I Get Married Too?" Her costar in the film, singer and actress Jill Scott, earned a best supporting actress nomination.
Meanwhile, actresses Anika Noni Rose, Kimberly Elise, Whoopi Goldberg and Phylicia Rashad received nominations in the supporting actress category for their roles in the film "For Colored Girls." Michael Ealy also nabbed a supporting actor nomination for his work in the movie.
Rashad's "Cosby Show" costar and Keshia Knight Pulliam (who played the Huxtable's youngest daughter Rudy), earned a supporting actress nomination for her work in "House of Payne." The sitcom is also up against "Glee," "30 Rock," "Are We There Yet?" and "Modern Family" for best comedy series.
Other big names to walk away with nominations include Denzel Washington for "Book of Eli," Jaden Smith for "The Karate Kid," Justin Timberlake for "The Social Network" and Halle Berry for "Frankie & Alice."
The 42nd NAACP Image Awards will air on Fox March 4.
