Tracy Morgan's estranged mother says actor won't help her with financial woes
Tracy Morgan's estranged mother Alicia Morgan is reportedly facing foreclosure on her Ohio home and says the comedian and "30 Rock" star will not help with her debut.
Alicia Morgan told CNN on February 1 that she called her son to ask for the $25,000 to pay off the mortgage but was told by Morgan's assistant that Morgan would only give her $2,000.
"I was so upset, I told her to tell Tracy 'Thank you, but no thanks. I am not some person on the street asking you for a handout, I am your mother,'" The 61-year-old told the news network. "And that was the end of that."
Alicia Morgan lost her job in 2011 and she fell behind on her $400 monthly mortgage payments when her income was reduced to $600 a month. Her home will go into foreclosure on February 23 if her mortgage isn't paid.
Morgan's sister, Asia, backed up their mother's story and told the New York Daily News, "He's never been a nice person and money's just made it worse."
However, Morgan offered up a different side of the story in a statement he released shortly after the reports surfaced.
"For reasons that are between us, I have not seen my mother in 11 years and outside of a random call here and there have had little to no contact with my sister," Morgan said in the statement. "We all have personal family issues that we have to deal with in life, but I choose to deal with mine in private and not through the media."
He added he was "saddened that these untrue stories about me have people questioning my commitment to my family."
Alicia Morgan tells CNN that the former "Saturday Night Live" cast member initially offered to pay her mortgage after she lost her job and sent him the documents necessary to pay the debt. After a few months passed, she realized he did not pay it off.
Morgan made headlines last month when he was hospitalized after collapsing at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah.
The 43-year-old "30 Rock" actor and comedian Tweeted on Monday, January 23, a day after the event: "Superman ran into a little kryptonite. The high altitude in Utah shook up this kid from Brooklyn. Thank U 2 the hospital staff. Back at work 2morrow shooting 30 Rock. Holla at me! Gotta thank the AMAZING medical staff and all my supporters! Love you. #GOgiants @Giants #ALLIN."
