Singer Tony Bennett was honored in San Francisco on February 14 for the 50th anniversary of the release of his hit song "I Left My Heart in San Francisco."
The song, written in 1954 by George Cory and Douglass Cross, was released by Bennett in 1962 and has become his signature song.
"I was still thinking that it would be a local song just for this area, and having no idea how it changed my life so much because it became my signature song," Bennett said according to KGO-Television. The station is the San Francisco-based sister station of OnTheRedCarpet.com's parent company, KABC Television.
Bennett, 85, appeared at San Francisco City Hall with Mayor Ed Lee and his wife. Lee declared February 14 Tony Bennett Day in San Francisco and presented Bennett with a key to the city.
"It's been the most beautiful day I've ever experienced in the whole history of my performing years," Bennett said.
Bennett has been singing professionally since the early 1950s and has released about 70 albums. He won two Grammy Awards on February 12 including Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for his duet with Amy Winehouse and Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for his album "Duets II."
