Tony Bennett and Amy Winehouse to record duet?
01/13/2011 by Corinne Heller
Tony Bennett may record a duet with British soul singer Amy Winehouse, who recently made a comeback following years of turmoil. The 84-year-old veteran crooner, known for songs such as "The Way You Look Tonight," and Winehouse, who is 27 and spurred the then-ironic hit "Rehab," have not commented publicly. She is currently performing concerts in Brazil through mid-January, marking her first tour following more than two years of alcohol and substance abuse, assault charges, a messy divorce and a series of health scares. "We're working on partnering up to record a duet but it's still in the works," the UK newspaper The Sun quoted Bennett as saying, adding that the two met when he performed at the Royal Albert Hall in London last year. In October, Winehouse performed in her native United Kingdom, singing at a charity event at a bar in London's Camden neighborhood. She had said in July that she plans on releasing her third album in early 2011. She is featured on the new Quincy Jones compilation "Q: Soul Bossa Nostra", singing the 1960s hit "It's My Party". Winehouse last recorded music for her own projects in 2006, when she released the album "Back to Black", which earned her five Grammys. Throughout the past few years, Winehouse gradually lost weight, appeared drunk at concerts and became involved in violent confrontations at clubs and other venues. Winehouse was rushed to the hospital in 2007 for what she later said was a drug overdose. She checked into a rehab clinic in January 2008 after the release of a video that allegedly showed her smoking crack cocaine. Her father said later that year that Winehouse, a cigarette chain smoker, had developed the lung condition emphysema. Her love life took a turn for the worse as well. Winehouse and Blake Fielder-Civil divorced in 2009 after two years of marriage. She has been linked to director Reg Traviss since last summer, although it is unclear if they are still together. She said last month she has not done drugs in almost three years and hopes to have a baby one day.
