Tommy Lee Jones, Ben Affleck and Chris Cooper play workers who are laid off from their jobs in the new film "The Company Men", whose subject matter may hit close to home for millions affected by the worst U.S. financial crisis since the 1930s.
In the movie, set for release on Jan. 21, 2011, the three men must re-define their lives as family men. For instance, Affleck's character once had a six-figure salary but now finds himself taking a major pay-cut and building houses for his drywall installer brother-in-law, played by Kevin Costner.Craig T. Nelson of the 1990s series "Coach" plays a company CEO and Maria Bello portrays a human resources worker who is forced to fire Affleck.
Although the recession, which began in December 2007, officially ended in 2009, more than 9.8 percent of Americans remain unemployed. The Oscar-nominated 2009 movie "Up in the Air" also dealt with layoffs and starred George Clooney as a man is sent all over the world to fire employees.
