Tom Brokaw once again criticizes the White House Correspondents' Dinner in a new interview and says the "breaking point" for his dislike of the annual event was when Lindsay Lohan attended last year.

Lohan was invited to the 2012 event as a guest of Fox News host Greta Van Susteren. Brokaw, who was the anchor of "NBC Nightly News" from 1982 to 2004, made his comments about the annual event in an interview with Politico published on Friday, April 26. Video from the interview can be seen below.

Brokaw noted that several of the original cast members of "Saturday Night Live" were brought to the dinner during the mid-1970s and said "it was appropriate. They were doing a lot of political stuff and it kind of raised, if you will, the profile of the White House Correspondents' Dinner."

"Then somewhere along the line, it began to freewheel out of control," he continued. He later added, "Then we got to that point where everyone had to bring in whatever Page Six celebrity happened to be around and for me, the breaking point was Lindsay Lohan. She became a big star at the White House Correspondents' Dinner. Give me a break."

Lohan was not the only celebrity to attend the ceremony that year. Other entertainers at the event included George Clooney, Zooey Deschanel, Charlize Theron, Reese Witherspoon and Kim Kardashian. Jimmy Kimmel was last year's host while Conan O'Brien will host the show this year.

Brokaw went on to explain why he openly criticized the event during an episode of "Meet The Press" a week after the 2012 White House Correspondents' Dinner.

"The press corps wasn't doing very well, either," Brokaw explained. "And I thought, 'This is one of the issues we have to address. What kind of an image do we present to the rest of the country? Are we doing their business or are we just a group of narcissists who are mostly interested in elevating our own profiles? And what comes through the screen on CSPAN on that night is the latter, not the former."

This year's White House Correspondents' Dinner takes place on Saturday, April, 27, and many celebrities are set to attend the event like "Scandal" stars Kerry Washington and Tony Goldwyn and "Modern Family" stars Ty Burrell and Sofia Vergara, according to ABC News. Politico reports that Barbra Streisand, Steven Spielberg, Charlize Theron and Scarlett Johansson will also attend.
