Tippi Hedren's nightmarish working relationship with Alfred Hitchcock is the subject of HBO's "The Girl," starring Sienna Miller.

Miller took on the role of Hedren in the film, which premieres on October 20. Hedren recently attended a screening of the film with her daughter Melanie Griffith and told the Associated Press that it was a chilling experience.

"I've never been in a screening room where nobody moved, nobody said anything," Hedren told the wire service. "Until my daughter jumped up and said, 'Well, now I have to go back into therapy.'"

The 82-year-old actress has spoken out lately about the legendary director's emotional and physical abuse. At a panel for "The Girl," held during the Television Critics Association on August 1, Hedren said that the director "ruined my career, but he didn't ruin my life."

"The Girl" is a dramatized telling of Hedren's experience with Hitchcock on the 1963 film "The Birds" and 1964's "Marnie." In "The Girl," Hithcock is played by Toby Jones.

Hitchcock is shown in the made-for-television film as being obsessed with Hedren and vindictive when the actress rejects his advances, according to The Associated Press.

Hedren said at the panel that Hitchcock made unwelcome advances on her and said that he had "a devious mind" and added, "There is so much wrong with that mind ... He was evil."

Hedren also told reporters that Hitchcock didn't tell her they would be using real raven for the attack scenes in "The Birds" and he refused to allow her to recover from her injuries sustained in the scene, despite a doctor's order. She eventually had to fight to get out of her 7-year contract with Hitchcock and lost roles as a result.

However, the actress also said that not all her experiences with Hitchcock were negative. She said the director was "absolutely delightful" when he worked with her as her drama coach and also described him as a "genius." She said the nature of their relationship changed toward the end of filming "The Birds."

Hedren, born Nathalie Kay Hedren, has also appeared in films like "Pacific Heights," "Citizen Ruth" and "I Heart Huckabees."

She married actor and producer Peter Griffith in 1952 and the two are parents to actress Melanie Griffith. In 1961, Peter Griffith and Hedren divorced and she married her agent Noel Marshall. The two divorced in 1982 and she went on to marry businessman Luis Barrenechea in 1985. Hedren's marriage to Barrenechea ended in 1995.

"The Girl" is slated to premiere on HBO on October 20. Watch the trailer below.
