Tina Fey and Amy Poehler to host Golden Globe Awards
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler have signed on to jointly host the 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards, which will air on January 13.
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which organizes the annual event, announced the news on Twitter on Monday, October 15, saying: "Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will host the 70th Golden Globe Awards on January 13, 2013."
Fey and Poehler are both former "Saturday Night Live" cast members and appeared together in the 2008 comedy "Baby Mama" and the 2004 Lindsay Lohan movie "Mean Girls.""Having both Tina Fey and Amy Poehler on board to host this year's festivities is a major coup," Paul Telegdy, President, Alternative and Late Night Programming of NBC Entertainment, said in a statement. "Tina and Amy have a proven chemistry and comedic timing from their many years together on SNL to their successful co-starring roles in 'Baby Mama.'"
The Awards show was hosted by Ricky Gervais the two previous consecutive years. The British comedian and co-creator and star of the original UK version of the series "The Office," received criticism in his first year hosting, for mocking several stars.
It was announced on October 1 that Seth MacFarlance, creator of "Family Guy" and the voice of several of the hit animated show's main characters, including baby Stewie Griffin, will host the 85th Academy Awards in 2013.
The 2013 Golden Globe Awards are set to air live from the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California on Sunday, January 13 from 8 p.m. until 11 p.m. ET on NBC.
