Tim McGraw calls Gwyneth Paltrow a 'rare talent'
At the premiere of "Country Strong" in December, country star Tim McGraw had nothing but praise for the film's star, Gwyneth Paltrow.
"Gwyneth is one of these rare talents that makes everybody around her better," McGraw said. "I mean, you walk on set, the lighting guy gets better, the sound guy gets better. Your A-game comes up. She inspires you to want to do better."
Though the film underperformed at the box office over the weekend, McGraw says that despite its country music heavy plot, the film is for everyone.
"I think ultimately it's a love story. It's a tragic love story in a lot of ways," McGraw told OnTheRedCarpet.com. "I think you really get caught up and emotionally invested in these guys&No matter what music you love."
In "Country Strong," which was released on January 7, Paltrow plays Kelly Canter, a country artist looking for a comeback. McGraw plays her husband and manager. Last year, he played Sandra Bullock's husband in "The Blind Side," which earned the actress an Oscar.
Meester, known for her role as New York socialite Blair Waldorf on the teen series "Gossip Girl," portrays a former beauty queen-turned singer in "Country Strong."
In an earlier interview McGraw joked to OnTheRedCarpet.com that ending drunk cell phone text messages to wife and fellow country singer Faith Hill after nights of partying got him into trouble and helped spur him to quit drinking.
"I just learned how to text," McGraw told OnTheRedCarpet.com. "I only learned how to text because back when I was drinking, I would get in trouble when I called my wife - she'd find out I was drinking."
"Then I started slurring my texts and I figured, 'Hell, I've got to quit drinking,'" he added. "That's the only thing that's going to work. And Skype, thank god, nobody knew anything about Skype back then."
McGraw has said he gave up alcohol around early 2008.
