Tia Mowry talks post-pregnancy diet and weight loss: 'It was a struggle'
Tia Mowry says it was a struggle to lose her baby weight after giving birth to her first child via cesarean section last year, but found a way to make it work with a strict diet.
Mowry, 33, rose to fame with the long-running 1990s sitcom "Sister, Sister" and also stars on the BET show "The Game." Last year, she added more TV work to her plate - the Style network reality program "Tia & Tamera," which also stars her twin sister, Tamara, and showcased her pregnancy and weight loss struggle. She and husband Cory Hardrict welcomed their son, Cree, in June.
"It was a struggle, it was hard," Mowry told OnTheRedCarpet.com's Rachel Smith, when asked about how she dropped the post-pregnancy pounds. "I definitely focused on what I ate. A lot of people are like, 'Oh my gosh, how did you do it?' Everyone knows that I had a cesarean, and when you have a cesarean, you can't work out a lot until like eight weeks, nine weeks afterwards."
"So what I did focus on was eating healthy - I stayed away from sugar, I stayed away from carbs, and I just ate like protein and veggies and I would do a lot of walking," she said.
Mowry made her comments at the recent Los Angeles premiere of the fifth season of "The Game," which premieres on January 10. She also gushed about her new child.
"I love my son, I'm kind of obsessed," Mowry said. "I have a little bit of separation anxiety. He sleeps in his crib and then he'll wake up around 4:30 to 5 in the morning, and I'll kind of put him in our bed."
On the season finale of "Tia & Tamera," Tia welcomed her boy. She told OnTheRedCarpet.com she was "devastated" when she heard she would have to deliver him via a cesarean section and had to return to work only six weeks later.
"Not only that, I have to go back to work six weeks after giving birth!" she said.
In September, "Tia & Tamera" was renewed for a second season. The first season finale earned the all-time highest ratings for the Style network.
