Shemane Nugent, the wife of rock star and outspoken pro-gun activist Ted Nugent, was recently arrested at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport in Texas for allegedly trying to carry a handgun through security.
A spokesperson for the airport told the Dallas Morning News that a person by her name was arrested on Thursday. No further details were provided. The law dictates that guns can be put in checked luggage but not in carry-ons.
Shemane attorney, David Finn, told the newspaper that she has a license to carry a concelealed weapon and that taking her gun to the airport was an "honest mistake," adding that she "completely forgot or never knew the weapon was in her bag."
"She is very embarrassed," Finn added. "She's never been in this situation before. She has expressed remorse for any inconvenience for any public safety officials."
Shermane and Ted, known for songs such as "Cat Scratch Fever," wed in 1989 and have a son together. The rocker is vocal about his support for people's right to bear arms, as stated in the Second Amendment to the Constitution, and is a member of the National Rifle Association. He showcased his hunting skills in the 2009 CMT reality show "Runnin' Wild," in which he and his son pretended to hunt down human competitors.
